About Our CenterOur Program
Protect yourself and get in shape while having a lot of fun! At the Family Martial Arts Center we are interested in developing people, not fighters. To do this we have combined the methods of behavioral and motivational psychology with modern day self-defense training. This unique combination not only teaches the value of self-defense skills, but also helps improve your assertiveness, fitness, and ability to set and reach goals. It doesn't matter how old you are either, because we offer a wide variety of family-oriented classes arranged by age and skill to make learning more enjoyable.
Our Center's GoalsChildren's Program: To improve a child's self-esteem and self-discipline, while building his/her self-confidence and character. The children in our classes soon develop a sense of respect for their parents (and other authority), their peers, and for themselves.Adult Program: To help adult students reduce stress and tension while gaining new confidence in handling their daily responsibilities. Students learn how to overcome procrastination and improve their success at home, work, and school. In addition, students learn effective self-defense techniques for protecting themselves and their families.
Our Teaching PhilosophyThis is best summarized by our Student Creed which is recited during each class:
Community OutreachSince our classes are all supervised by Dr. Len Brassard, a licensed Psychologist, we are able to teach children and adults with special challenges. Our classes include individuals with ADHD - Combined, ADHD - Inattentive, ADHD - Hyperactive-Impulsive, Autism, Ausperger Syndrome, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Mental Retardation, Downs' Syndrome, and William's Disease. Family members soon observe improvements in the students' physical skills, and in their focus and concentration. In fact, several of our Junior students have been able to reduce their Ritalin doses as a result of improved attention. In addition, we have several staff members who can provide academic tutoring. And Dr. Brassard is always available for parent-teacher conferences. Our Center's Teaching StaffThe Family Martial Arts Center believes that while teachers must be skillful martial artists, they must also have spent years acquiring the knowledge and experience needed to teach and motivate students to be their best. To accomplish this goal, members of our teaching staff not only work weekly to improve their self-defense skills, they also receive weekly supervision with Dr. Brassard to improve their understanding of behavioral teaching methods. This rounded training approach not only teaches our staff modern self-defense skills, they also learn how to effectively work with students who have various physical and emotional challenges. Our LocationWe are located at:88 Boulder Drive Fitchburg, Ma. 01420 978-342-9911
