Let us show you at NO RISK how our program can make
your child a success at home and at school, with classes taught by
Dr. Len
Brassard, Psychologist.
First, let us tell you about our program:
Karate Kids Class (Ages 3-5)

The Karate Kids Classes have been developed for our
youngest students. Since many of these children haven’t begun to attend school,
we focus on talks and drills that teach children how to show respect towards
parents and siblings, and how to get along with peers. The children in this
class learn the same Karate material as our Junior Beginners, but at a slower
pace. This way they can learn and retain the information while having fun and
making new friends. Our Karate Kids learn how to have a positive attitude while
developing the character of a martial artist.
These classes are taught by
certified martial arts
teachers who have specialized training with young children and with the help of our STORM
Team (our children's leadership team). These teachers
have weekly meetings, supervised by Dr. Brassard, to assure they are
well-trained in their Karate material and their understanding of how to teach
children with diagnoses such as ADHD, ADD, Autism, Asperger's, OCD, ODD, PDD,
Downs and MR. With a growing number of children being diagnosed with mental and
physical challenges, we’ve shaped our Karate Kids curriculum to help children
increase their attention spans while learning how to stay focused on tasks.
We’ve also included material to help children develop good social skills at home
and at school. Parents of our Karate Kids have the added benefit of having any
of their clinical questions answered by Dr. Brassard.

Junior Beginner Class (Ages 6-12)

Psychologists have learned that children between the
ages of 6 and 12 years develop attitudes and behaviors that will ultimately
shape their adult lives. We developed our Junior Beginner program with this in
mind, making this class an important first stepping stone in a child’s life-long
journey. The family atmosphere and friendly teaching staff give children a safe
place to be in the evenings, with positive role models teaching them how to have
confidence and self-control.
This class combines the motions of Karate with
behavioral teachings to help children develop the values and habits necessary
for success in their personal and academic lives. This unique program was
designed by our Center’s Director, Dr. Len Brassard, while working as an intern
in Little Rock, AR. He taught this material to a group of Autistic children for
8 weeks, and follow-up testing showed improvements in their gross motor skills
and balance. In the years since, he has consulted regularly with Pediatricians,
Psychologists, Social Workers, and academic Teachers to assure the curriculum
kept pace with the needs of today’s children.
Our staff works closely with the students’ parents
and academic teachers to ensure the children are showing proper respect at home
and school, and keeping up with their chores and grades. Our Student Creed
teaches our students that they should obey their parents and teachers, because
it is the right thing to do. They learn that they are not just martial artists
within the walls of our Center, but that they should always be an example of
what it means to train here. They are taught to live by the principles of Black
Belt: Modesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
Teachers of our Junior classes have specialized
training working with children between the ages of 6 and 12 years who have
diagnoses such as ADHD, ADD, Autism, Asperger's, Downs and MR. These
teachers also receive weekly supervision with Dr. Brassard to maintain their
knowledge of behavioral training and martial arts skills. With a
growing number of children being diagnosed with mental and physical
challenges, we’ve shaped these classes to help children increase their
attention spans while learning how to stay focused on tasks. And, with
every child diagnosed, there are parents with questions. Parents with their
children enrolled in our program have the added benefit of being able to get
any clinical or behavioral questions answered by Dr. Brassard.
On the Fridays of Week 5 (in our five weeks per
cycle system) we hold a
Graduation
Ceremony and belt promotion for students who have the appropriate class
points and martial arts skill. Every six months we also have a
Graduation Ceremony for students who have achieved the rank of
Black
Belt.

Beginner Class for Teens (Ages 13-19)
The situations
confronting teenagers today are very different from the ones teenagers faced
in the past. Our Teen classes include high energy workouts, class
discussions, focus
and concentration drills, and relaxation training. Through proper training
of the mind and body, our students learn the skills and coping strategies
necessary to successfully overcome the pressures and obstacles faced by
teens and young adults. Our family atmosphere and friendly instructors
provide a fun and safe place for teens to grow into successful adults. Some
of our students who demonstrate excellent character and attitude throughout
their studies are given an opportunity for leadership training. With strong
dedication some may even become members of our teaching staff. Members of
our teaching staff have gone onto great things in their adult lives and
attribute their success to the training and experience gained through our
program.
Beginner Classes for Adults

Our adult classes are designed to give students
a complete workout while they develop serious street-oriented self-defense
skills. Unlike most of our younger students, adults realize the potential
dangers that exist on today's streets. They recognize the need to be
physically and mentally able and capable of defending themselves from a
verbal or physical assault. And, as life in the 21st century is also filled
with daily stressors, it's important for adults to learn how to cope with
and manage their stress. Our adult program develops both the minds and
bodies of our students.
