1 John

1 John 1

v06:   If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

v07: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

v08: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

v09: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2

The Test of Knowing Christ

v01: My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

v02: And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

The Test of Knowing Him

v03: Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

v04: He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

v05: But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

v06: He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

v09: He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

v10: He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

v11: But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Do Not Love the World

v15: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

v16: For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.

v17: And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

v19: They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

v20: But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

v22: Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.

v27: But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

The Children of God

v28: And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

1 John 3

v02: Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

v08: He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

v14: We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

v15: Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

v22: And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

1 John 4

Love for God and One Another

v01: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

v02: By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

v03: and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

v04: You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

v18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Obedience by Faith

v20: If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

1 John 5

v07: For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

v08: And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

Confidence and Compassion in Prayer

v14: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

v16: If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.

Knowing the True--Rejecting the False

v18: We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

v19: We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
