Technique Of The Month

Parting Wings

Attack: The opponent is standing in front of you executing a two-hand push to your chest.  His left foot is forward.

Defense:

  1. From a natural stance, step your right foot back into a left neutral bow as you execute double open-hand extended outward blocks to the insides of the opponent's wrists.

  2. Without hesitation pivot into a left forward bow and deliver a right palm-up handsword to his left ribcage (striking just below the pectoral muscle).  Simultaneous with this strike, chamber your left open-hand by your right ear.

  3. Pivot back to the left neutral bow and deliver a left palm-down handsword strike to the opponent's throat, as your right hand chambers along your right hip.

  4. Rotate back to the left forward bow and execute a right vertical middle-knuckle punch to his solar-plexus, as your left open-hand is positioned as a low zone check .

Notes & Questions:
  1. As you execute the double open-hand extended outward blocks, how should your right hand be positioned?

  2. As you position your left open-hand by your right ear you are chambering for the left handsword strike.  What secondary purpose does this checking hand serve?

  3. What power principle is used in the delivery of the left handsword strike?

  4. The right middle-knuckle punch is delivered along what angle?

  5. For what purpose is the middle-knuckle punch delivered along this angle?
